Purpose....

This blog has been created after a lot lot lot of consideration and time wasting, mainly because I was afraid, scared to fall into the abyss which is blogging ...

I did not want to get lost in "blogosphere", by that I mean, blend into the background and be just another blogger.

To me, there are different types of blogs/bloggers and I am saying this as an outsider looking in...there are some which revolve around the blogger, so much so that the blogger begins to appear self-obssessed and narcissistic, offering their candid views on anything and everything and sharing little anecdotes and pictures from their lives which they have innocently assumed we would be interested in. Unfortunately, such is not always the case. It is obvious why I am scared of being in this group, as I have many-a-time sat and chuckled at the expense of the poor sod who thinks I actually care what happened to them, what they did or what they wore today.

However, being scared was not a good enough reason for me not to do this...I am starting out nervous and tentative, but as with all things, this too shall run its course...as it does, I hope it does what its supposed to do, which is point out things we see on a daily basis and break them down, so we can look at them from different angles and think of them in ways which we would have not, had it not been for this outlet.

Lets see how it goes!

  1. I find this very interesting and some times people write blogs for them selves alone but also think of the outcome of other people reading them. You also ask questions like what will they think of me, are there others that relate to this and where are they. I think of the poor but not in a way that puts me under judgement. I think there are standards of living and i should be greatful that although mine might not be the best but it's way better than running from bullets each hour and minute of the day especially when you have a family you are also trying to protect.

  2. Yes Peterson, very true actually....but you know when most of what you see or witness tends to follow a particular direction, you kind of start seeing and thinking myopically...and I refuse to accept it fully but I will admit that maybe, just maybe I am now a victim of that narrow-mindedness.

But this is why I have you here, to open my eyes and tell me how you see things as well, I have written my opinion and asked for yours so thank you. Write some more pls! x

  5. i have never been a big fan of blogs as i think
    1-they are too saturated
2-they are not credible sources for anything
howver they are the fastest growing form of consumer opinion and for once we can turn to each oher and ask opinions and share ideas just like your doing now
before we would have had to go through a whole list of mediums which i suppose make blogs fantastic

yes u have every right to be scared but find a niche, make a difference and you wont be just another blogger

  7. i am not a "blogger" myself, but on a basic level, i think the intended purpose of most blogs is to provide information and to share ideas.

i tend to share ideas amongst friends and colleagues who i know and whose opinions i can trust. as far as obtaining information is concerned, i find the newspapers and their websites to be a more reliable source than blogs.

this is not to say that i do not see the benefits of blogging and i think your purpose as set out above is commendable. to the extent that this encourages me to think in ways which i wouldn't necessarily from my everyday physical interactions, i would be willing to explore....

  8. Hey anonymous....even though I'n still a fresh blogger myself, I feel like I must correct you on what you said...blogs can be credible sources, it just depends on what information you are in need of. If you want the news - in full and as accurate as you can possibly get, you'll probably need to watch the news for breaking stories or something but if you want people's opinions and their accounts of things happening in the world today, the "blogosphere" as they call it is probably your best bet!! Thats just the way things are nowadays.
Blogs are just another way of doing what Uncle D said he does with friends and colleagues, if you can share ideas and opinions in person, over the phone, on your facebook, myspace or twitter, why not on a blog like we are doing here?
Its just a matter of moving with the times uncle D...not suggesting we abandon physical interactions and more traditional sources/forums of obtaining or sharing information, just saying we should be open to new ways of doing things :P

  9. I see Blogging as a new way of letting off steam. People like me who are introverted and not very good at speaking out our minds will find our niche here. I have often wondered what blogging is all about but i now begin to enjoy reading this one and will certainly look for more blogs to read and maybe start my own blog one day.Hahaha!!PS. Where's this blogosphere and how can i log onto some good blogsites??
